RE:  Coronavirus 2019

Dear GVSD Parent and Guardians:

After careful consideration and talking to multiple sources, we have decided to close school both Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

All teachers will be at the school on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.  Parents and or students are encouraged to come in anytime between 1pm and 3pm tomorrow to get books they might need in the event of a longer-term school closure that extends past spring break.  We also have Chromebooks for ALL students to check out if needed.

We encourage you to communicate with your child’s teacher by email for missing work. We would like them to stay caught up and ready to continue their learning when they return to school. If you have a student in high school, they should also be checking online platforms like Google Classroom, etc.

In order to prepare for an impending extended school closure, we created a survey to inquire about our student needs.  There are questions regarding school lunch and internet accessibility, etc.   Please complete the survey ASAP.  It will help us with our planning.  This survey has been sent out through Lumens.

There may be further information that comes out during spring break concerning any future closures.

In the event of an extended school closure:

  • We will contact parents via our emergency notification system.
  • We will treat it like a snow day, and we will not charge students or staff an absence.
  • We have a plan for delivering content online and or through materials that will be sent home.
  • We are working with food services on a plan for students to receive food during extended closure days.
  • We will ensure communication is clear and consistent in the event we need to deal with this challenge.
