Advanced Opportunities

Advanced Opportunities allow for students to individualize their high school learning plan to get a jump start on their future. These options include dual credit, workforce training, certification exams, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate programs.

The Advanced Opportunities program can provide funding for students who want to take advanced course work while attending an Idaho public school in grades 7-12.

College of Western Idaho

Dual Credit programs are a collaborative partnership between Idaho’s colleges/universities and high schools to deliver college-level courses to high school students. Dual Credit programs give these students the opportunity to receive both high school and college credits for pre-approved courses. Students who register for Dual Credit courses receive a letter grade based on work completed during the duration of the class which will be reflected on a college transcript. Credits are transferable to Idaho colleges and universities, and many other institutions outside the state.

IDCTE, in partnership with our stakeholders, provides leadership and coordination of programs in career technical education which prepare Idaho’s youth and adults for high-skill, in-demand careers.  

This is accomplished only though the collaboration and commitment of our local institutions, educators, and industry partners. As you learn more about how we support the front-line working to accomplish our mission, I encourage you to engage in our mission—whether encouraging our youth and adults to take part in career technical education programs available to middle school, high school, college, or adult students, or engaging as an industry partner with your local program.

What is LAUNCH?

Idaho LAUNCH is a grant program that provides students a one-time opportunity to have 80% of the tuition and fees at an eligible institution covered, up to a maximum amount of $8,000. With approximately 75 million dollars available for Idaho LAUNCH funding, it is possible for this program to offer between 9,000 and 10,000 awards per year!

How much is available for students each year?

Students can receive up to one-half of the initial grant award in the first year of a program. However, for programs that are less than 12 months in length, students can use the full awarded amount (80% of tuition and fees up to $8,000) in one year.

Important Dates

  • Idaho LAUNCH application opens: October 3

  • Initial applications due: November 30

  • Contingent Award letters sent by: December 31, March 31, and May 31

  • Idaho LAUNCH application closes: April 15
